i want to show you video because the cal trans crews here have been busy. we watched them a short time ago move in and right near summit drive they had to block off a lane as the clears went in and cleared out a drain clogging and causing standing water that was a hazard for drivers there. it has definitely been a treacherous drive for folks coming over the pass here into the santa cruz area. a lot of people seem to be slowing down, but we did talk with one truck driver who says some drivers seem to be a bit too cautious. >> some are too paranoid and some are too aggressive. there is kind of both kinds. you got to watch out. >> meantime there are some power outages to report up here in the santa cruz mountains, the latest report we have from pg&e, the latest numbers we have, 1400 people up here in this area without power, ben loman, scotts valley. earlier this morning pg&e showed us one of this mobile command vehicles, these are units they have on stand by. they have four of them all ready to go to help coordinate the crews in the field working to repair th

now we did have a chance to talk with cal tran. they just want to remind you to really take it easy. look from the management center in oakland shows you they do monitor the freeways in realtime. they do ask that you be very careful on the roadways and pay attention to the interchangeable message signs. we did talk to a chp officer earlier this morning. he stopped by but had to take off in a quick manner because he needed to respond to an accident and a spinout. that going on around the region this morning. the rain again has let up just a little bit. as steve mentioned it looks pretty good. we will continue to watch this as well as the flash flood watch for the north bay area. i was in talking with the chp officer he mentioned something kind of interesting. he said this wind can really, really wreak havoc on our morning drive. what it does do is help to blow some of that rain off of the roadways and helps to at least prevent a little bit of flooding and puddling along the roadways. so i thought that was really interesting. also yo

cal fire has an aviation policy as well. we work cooperatively with the agencies here at the table to ensure when we are engaged in an aerial fire fighting event we are working within each other's policies. we have trained in a work around, we can do close air support with navy and marine corps aircraft, with the current system we have. would we like to improve upon it? absolutely. we have gone very high up in the organization to try and look at getting the r210 radio modified to the point where it can work on our vhf spectrums, that's one of our challenges we need to move forward with. but overall we're confident when we do call upon dod assets to integrate with civilian aircraft, the training regimen we put forth will keep aircrews safe and also have them be effective. there was a lot of questions from a political level as well as a public level. you've got aircraft sitting at north island, just launch them, get them in the fight. it was hard to explain to them that that's a very delicate air space when you have fixed wing
